Can Dogs Contract Herpes From Humans

Just around the corner ... ... - Part

Milan, December 2005

The talk about memories of a particularly exciting travel experiences can bring most of us think of physically distant destinations and / or culturally from the daily routine in which drag most of our time and - without wanting to bother exotic destinations - would still be thinking of situations a few hours away by plane, by car or train from home ...

After all, when we go on holiday we do it just to "switch off" from the daily routine and do something different from the usual way, between lounging on a beach to the sea to fry shrimp el'affrontare as the fatigue and excitement of a Himalayan trekking, there is , a wide variety of recreational opportunities for all different tastes all united by a common assumption: always away from home! Yet it is sometimes necessary to move away just to enjoy the pleasant hours of "break" ... in other words - as they say - sometimes you just turn the corner to discover something new!

I admit that I was first convinced of the "truth" linked to the distance and that is why I wandered around for my vacation to Europe with an occasional bet on other continents (as well as in Italy, of course ) but I had to wait for the visit of a friend from abroad to find that even more angles to me that family in my town may well - in fact - to offer unexpected emotions ...

The year 2005 was closing in a rugged snow is no longer so common in recent years and the evening of Thursday, December 29 that the parking lot of Bergamo was uniformly covered by a thick layer of beaten snow fell continuously throughout the day and the low temperature maintained the dusty and dry ... a lot of cars parked up at least the night before was now almost white clump making it difficult to even tell what brand or color they were. In short, even if the image is certainly obvious and rhetoric, I must admit that I would not surprised to find two cars parked between the even Santa's sleigh ... and the thing I would also angered! In the evening it seemed that time was not even a free place where you can leave the car just long enough to accommodate a person to come: it seemed that half had fled Lombardy in flight around the world, leaving the car here! However in the end I managed somehow to find a pitch at the far end of free parking. And as I started walking to the arrivals hall I enjoyed listening to the crunching of packed snow under my shoes and watch large flakes fall thick and light brightly lit by the lights of the airport ... The weather seemed to offer a Kateřina environment somewhat similar to his Prague.

The "Madonna" blessed with a clear but cold sunshine
end of December

Katerina (Katka, for friends) is undoubtedly the best friend I have in this country! And when I say best I mean in every sense: a young, nice, very nice and extremely smart and - in a sense - the daughter that I would have liked, and to have you here my guest for a week flattered me very much! The program was very simple and very rich: the New Year with me and my friends and a week of tourism in and around Milan.

curious game of snow peaks and pinnacles of the Cathedral
And on December 30, opened with a wonderful sun, one of those classic beautiful winter days that will bring out even with a cold. The first - and most obvious - tourist stop in Milan can not be that the Dome! Every time I see the wonderful forest of pinnacles of marble Candoglia will stay always admired and envy the tourists arriving at his feet the first time, the thrill of that view ... and on a day so full of light could be seen since shine from the floor of the square at the top of the spire small cap of snow, and so we climbed on the roof of the cathedral to allow her to see her up there for the first time and me to enjoy this rare winter view from the top of the Duomo.

... the dangers of a roof covered with snow ...
If it was easy to predict expected to find many tourists, it was quite surprising (even if - in reality - too widely expected) the fact that large areas of the roof had been cordoned off because a lot of snow and the slope of the underlying surface made these areas very dangerous. And despite the pall of smog obscuring part of the landscape, the view over the roofs of the city, profiles of "Pirellone" or the Tower of the Castello Sforzesco Filaret were clearly visible, and the image of the square white snow black ants swarming with human and the bells of nearby churches stimulated many emotions in me ... and the sight of the joy and pleasure of Katka in admiring what I saw and described them made me feel even stronger the honor and pride to be born in this city!

The "discovery" of a novice Blogger

Obviously, those who have never done a blog can not know but - like a theater - there is a backstage area for each blog that not only lets you write, but provides many useful services such as parking-reading, to change the setting and layout, and even have the statistics the visits. And herein lies the first and (for me) wonderful surprise: a list of countries where the site has been visited (including the number of pages read) ... here - for example - the statistics to date:

Page Views by country

Italy ;
U.S.
Singapore
Czech Republic
Germany
UK
Spain
France
Iran ;
Russian Federation

What a surprise to read such a surprisingly long list of foreign countries ... sure, I know who some of these players as Valentin from France (and most likely, he is always a player ... but also from Russia from Siberia!), Mark from the UK, Spain and Raphael do not know exactly who the Republic Czech (but I have many friends in that country, Italian-speaking) but what surprises me are the visitors from countries where personally do not know anyone! Of course it is likely that the single visit to Iran or the two German surveys have been random, but what surprises me most is to have Regular readers of Singapore and the United States!

As you can see, this is still (currently) a blog for a few close friends "visited only by a small number of friends and I 've always wondered how it could have happened to have found one or more readers in the U.S. and Singapore ... I talked with friends and assumptions about these players has sparked the imagination of my partners ... the most malicious and imaginative of my interlocutors has come to assume that the reader is American, in fact, a CIA agent hunting for potential blog "terrorist" (BOOOOOUUMMMM!!) On the player but no Asian is instead managed to make assumptions ... the only thing certain is that the Italian law!

My curiosity in this regard has been developed with an almost childlike desire to know these players so far and to me unknown so I ask them, please drop me! Send me a message saying who you are, how did you find this blog and what are your comments ... Have a happy "baby" more than fifty years !!!!!

To Become A Real Estate Underwriter

What a beautiful language, Italian (?)

Olomouc (Czech Republic) 20 August 2009

; My vacation in the Czech Republic was in its last days, after a week in my beloved Prague and a couple of days I was in Liberec for a few days in that of Brno host of friends of the place. Brno - the capital of Moravia and the second city in the state - tourism is very interesting not least because of its castle (located on one of the two hills around which grew the city) is - for the Italians - infamous: it is the which were held in notorious Spilberg Pellico, Peter Maroncelli and other patriots Italian Risorgimento (and beyond) now become an attractive venue with exhibitions, art gallery and concerts in the courtyard area. But this city is also an ideal base to visit many places Moravian reached by an extensive network of public transport was so I decided to visit Olomouc ...
Olomouc: the view from the central square tower of the cathedral of St. Maurice
Olomouc - the ancient capital of Moravia - is easily accessible from Brno thanks to a timely and efficient bus service, mostly somewhat outdated although still not fully efficient. The drivers - while speaking only Czech - are always very polite and as far as possible are always ready to give information to tourists lost. My limited Czech dictionary barely allows me to understand some simple concepts such as "left, right, forward, first, second, third ..." thus enabling us to understand in broad terms when and where to turn to get to my destination. Today's program does not require the need: the message might be close to my destination ...

Olomuc: il Municipio
Olomuc: il piccolo Township cortile
brings me to Olomouc in the late morning of a sunny day, and get off the easy for me to find myself in a few minutes in the beautiful historical center of the city characterized by very large square surrounded by a frame of period buildings - mainly Baroque - which give a very special charm: the total lack of modern buildings in sight seems to make the visitor a step back in time more than two centuries. At the center of the square stands the palace of the ancient Town Hall in which small, cool and now very quiet courtyard for many years was home to many shops. The soft colors and very clear buy under the intense light of a sun almost blinding radiance: in spite of what is pleasant to walk around the square, admiring the size and the charm of its architecture ...

Hungry for news more than food, within the crowded tourist information office right in the Town Hall site: despite the presence of many visitors, however, the wait is short and a young and courteous I used to rapidly provide all the information I need, including departure time of buses for the return. In the end I go out into his hands not only the map of the city but also a large number of leaflets written in Italian dedicated to the various monuments of the city so come to know things and totally new news to me. Given where I am now I stop to watch the astronomical clock located in a sort of large niche on the outside wall of City Hall. While not of exceptional artistic value, however, has a history that proves just at first glance: the mosaics and moving figures are characterized by the typical austere style, and ideological celebration of Socialist Realism (a legacy of Soviet rule) [1] giving testimony to its realization in an age chronologically but still close enough (in many ways) long gone, but this style so dissonant from what surrounds it is not that much out of tune ...
Olomouc: Astronomical Clock
One of the leaflets as soon as I received goes on to explain the meaning of the pompous baroque fountain that stands next to them: I find it to be one of the six distributed features Baroque fountains in the ancient heart of the village. Specifically it is the one dedicated to Julius Caesar who was - according to local legend - the founder of the city.
Olomouc: Town Hall and in front of the baroque fountain dedicated to Julius Caesar
But in the square, as if to counterbalance the Town Hall, there is also a monument rather special: it is the Holy Trinity Column, a monument rightly came to be part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2000 by ' UNESCO. Its construction (built in the first half of 700) was due to a vote of gratitude to God at the end of one of the recurring pestilence that has plagued Europe in ancient times. Of columns similar - in fact - there are several cities of what was the Austrian Empire (I personally saw those in Brno and Telc, and also remember having seen one in Vienna as well) but what makes it absolutely one of Olomouc unique and special are the size (it is by far the largest of its kind) that can accommodate al'l'interno its base chapel (decorated lavishly and freely open to visitors) and the incredible richness and variety of sculptures that decorate externally. This is not my story it wants to be a replacement guide, but in this case, I must dwell a bit of '... The chapel, in fact, has the impressive size of phone booth in which it is impossible to stay more than three or four people at once. I was very lucky: despite the many tourists around the square at that time no one was in there so I took the opportunity to get into it and observe it well. I admit that the comparison with a phone booth (albeit impressive) is somewhat irreverent as the chapel is actually a space richer not only in size but also for the beauty of rich reliefs that decorate the interior walls. And the light shines on them - coming from the large perforation of the chapel - it enriches them with shadows and nuances that give them special aura that seems to emphasize the spirituality of the place ... But Inside I find not to be only that a distinguished gentleman in his sixties, which plays a leading role, greets me smiling. Given the quiet moment and my sheer presence, the Lord begins to calmly describe the representations in excellent English and with a participation that - despite being the umpteenth repetition of what has been said hundreds of people - make it seem completely new and the explanation made for me! So I can appreciate the sacred representations about pages and characters of the Old Testament figures of Cain, Abel, Noah, Abraham and Isaac unfold around me to focus on the relief of the Crucifixion of Christ ... I admit I did not remember exactly these details ( I refreshed surfing the Internet) but I remember very well understand the satisfaction in what I was looking almost accompanied by a sense of complicity that tied me to the lady at that time ... I felt almost as if at that time we were the only two people in the world able to appreciate such works. What a strange state of mind are created when you can enjoy the momentary privilege even to be the only tourists there! It was a pleasant exchange of questions and explanations - however brief - was much more satisfying and rich long visits to castles and monuments made in those days ... Natural and obvious that the nice lady at the end, the first to greet me, ask me what country I came, when he learned that he was very surprised I was Italian but - alas - and certainly not in the sense of the English lady of South Zeal! Candidly confessed that he was very surprised that it seemed strange that an Italian speaking good English with ease as all good Italian tourists who drive in them or did not speak English at all or did so very badly and it shall remain disappointed that the guide does not speak Italian ... In that moment I felt very uncomfortable, not knowing whether to feel flattered by the compliment to my English or indirectly made to feel ashamed if the ' ignorance and shallowness demonstrated by the majority of my fellow citizens who travel abroad ... sketched a sentence of fact (I was frankly hard to justify my compatriots ...) and - thankfully - got a bunch of Asian tourists that I facilitated the command: so I took the opportunity to greet and plunge back again into the sun to come out of the square.

Olomouc: Holy Trinity Column with the entrance to the chapel
Outdoors thought about the episode and I immediately remembered that he felt the same uneasiness a week when first visiting the Konopiste, I was found to aggregate a group of friendly and ignorant provincial Italian pensioners, moderately "caciaroni" from banal comments and unable to ask a smart question that it was a the end of a visit, however, interesting ...

But that's another story, for love of country, it will tell you!

[1] The original clock of the fifteenth century was disastrously "restored" to the beginning of '900 and severely damaged during World War II. Its present appearance dates back to the 50s of last century. The original sacred figures were replaced by those of workers, scientists and athletes. In this is an astronomical clock unique in its kind.

Should I Wear A Girdle

What a beautiful language, the Italian (!) - Part

(continued)

traditional English dances are not a male prerogative ...

My travels takes me close to a corner of the tent where a blond woman wearing traditional dress was spinning skills with the wool using a traditional spinning wheel moved smoothly with a pedal. I was born and raised in the city and although not as long ago I was a kid watching those magical gestures so agile and so old ... Some traditional instruments are now also disappeared from our countryside and their occasional occurrence magnetically attracts me. So the gesture involved dall'arcaicità I stopped watching the scene: the lady no longer young attractive but still kept her head lowered slightly to follow with their eye movements of the regular cast and only after a while - almost as if you were suddenly aware of my presence - he looked at me a hint of a mild and gentle smile, flattered, perhaps, that maybe my attention for her unusual. To spare his polite smile with a polite greeting began almost by accident a short conversation. I do not remember anything of what we said, certainly nothing special, perhaps circumstantial phrases, and probably also exchanged a few words about the work he was doing, the only thing I remember is that certainly told me that the area was also if I remember exactly where in South Zeal or a neighboring village. While trying to use my English in the best possible way to easy to understand that she was a stranger and could not understand the pronunciation of my nationality I asked where they came from, when I said "I'm Italian" I saw the expression change completely of the face and his friendly kindness was replaced by joy mixed with astonishment and - displacing completely - he told me in an Italian rather than proper English accent and the spiccatissimo " How nice! We study 'den! We really like his tongue! "and hint that I was regularly with other people to study His words ... filled me with a childlike joy as if I had received a gift most desired but never even dreamed of! Still pleasantly stunned by the discovery of the lady - when they saw a distinguished gentleman - he drew the attention and pointing to me said, "It is he who teaches us his tongue! . The new partner - a man in his seventies by the typical appearance of an English country gentleman suddenly popped out from a novel by Dickens or a Wodehouse novel: not very tall, bald, smiling, wearing a jacket, tie and knee-length trousers with shoes English all the distinctive style in shades of beige and brown. Once informed my Italian vigorously shook my hand and - say it is his role as teacher of Italian - you said happy to also tell him my knowledge of the lessons held regularly where several people took part in the district ...

generations united by a common passion

Imagine my state of mind: there, in a small English village far away geographically and mentally from a cosmopolitan city like London, in a place where, completely intoxicated by this total "inglesicità, I bask in it as a cat on a sofa suddenly and unexpectedly find myself listening to my speech with an accent familiar and pleasant - in St. it time - so "exotic"! And the thing I most proud of is that those people studying Italian, simply because they had pleasure in doing so! Not for "business" or necessity but only for the fascination that my Italian language and culture have on them. This discovery was also a nice shot at my presumption: even then, not in spite of my short knowledge of English because I was wrongly convinced of their almost total unresponsiveness to learn and use a foreign language in their full awareness of the role of "universal language" acquired by their language all over the world. Not for pride or for "grandeur" as our French cousins, but simply because it was not necessary ... And if I had never imagined to meet an Italian-speaking English, I would expect to find in London or indeed, perhaps, in some cities university certainly not in a remote farming village in the southwest!

For me it was an absolutely amazing: I was alone in England for more than a week and more a week I was using only the local language, almost "forgetting" Italian (to the point of often surprising to think in English) when, suddenly, I find myself talking my language - on request - with the British ! And it was gratifying eager to see them trying to listen, perhaps to steal some words from my best rudimentary decision making - no more and no less - what I did in all previous days to clean up (as possible) my English from Italian cadence.

congested main street otherwise quiet ...

In England and in South Zeal are back again over the years and I also ricapitato to find English speaking Italian, but that episode so simple, perhaps as trivial, it was nevertheless one of the most intense emotions that I have to point that even today, years later, he tried again to remember strongly the feelings lived then!

Unfortunately, however, not always the use of Italian culture was synonymous with ...

Signs To Look For When A Baby Bumps Their Head

What a beautiful language, 'Italian (!) - Part 2

South Zeal (England) in August 2001

; South Zeal: How many of you readers Italians have never heard of this charming little village in the English countryside before now? And in the unlikely event of any answer in the affirmative, how many of you have been there for several days and is back for more next year? Well I'm willing to bet that even before the imaginary crowd of bloggers would see Italian speakers do not even get a hand ...

I, however, I did it with pleasure, for some years.

is unavoidable at this point a small, brief description of the place: South Zeal is a small cluster of homes smoothly lies in a basin of North Devon on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, a community of no more than 4 or 500 inhabitants, where I believe we can really say that everybody knows everybody ... There's nothing special, South Zeal: equals many other rural English villages where life goes slow but not for 362 days a year and then - in the first 3 days August weekend - totally transformed thanks to an event very much alive and heard in these parts.

South Zeal For three days he became one of the very heart of the English folk tradition: since 1978 we held the small but sentitissimo "Dartmoor Folk Festival" in which I participated for the first time in 1997 by Sue portatoci, a dear friend of passionate British Honorary fellow of the musical traditions of these lands. Attending a festival is an experience so compelling ... especially when you find this to be the only foreigner! And even when - after several years - began to come even a couple of Belgians the spell is broken, creating, in fact, with the two other "continental", a pleasant sense of complicity.

The festival takes place in the soccer field (made up of a natural grass not exactly flat) which is placed on the main stage, two farm wagons the oldest of which has become the symbol of the festival. Around two tents were erected to house the pub and a covered stage, the other - smaller - instead of hosting banquets for the sale of handicrafts.

the background of the big market of handcrafts

Despite the prejudices about the British climate, Devon and throughout the southwest English in general is a region in August and a sunny climate very pleasant. Thanks also to the breezes coming from the sea never too far away you are from anywhere in Devon and Cornwall even on hot days you can feel good. Sure, the weather instability is still a fact of life so as not to exclude a few days of rain even in the driest Augusts and for this reason that any initiative will be provided outside (this season) is still planned, creating covered areas where find, if necessary, a rain shelter.

That Saturday in August on the lawn of South Zeal, the sky was almost clear and the heat was particularly intense: the big market of handicraft products are offered as well as a welcome shelter to the scorching rays of the sun. The commercial offer this was not - in reality - not exceptional in terms of quantity and quality but what interested me just because I was absolutely taken by the atmosphere that permeated the English and that shone from the faces of people, products offered, the behavior composed and polite even of very young children ... What a difference with the gaiety and noisy and intrusive behavior often unnecessarily excessive for us Italians! And what I felt fine pleasure also to appreciate the public spirit of these people, amazing for us: no annoying noise, no litter or rubbish left around, no useless little vandalism and absolute respect for even the most trivial nature of the rules of social behavior.

; Beandomi full of this "full immersion" totally absorbed by the perfect "British way of life I was leading, I was wandering distractedly watching the various proposals merchandise to a stop in front of a no longer young ladies who - using a simple device rudimentary - using cables such as fiber wove large drums of the ears of wheat and barley: ropes rough in appearance but certainly robust despite the proverbial fragility stems that form them. The constant and regular movement of the hands of the farmer, the slight rustle of the gimmick to weave the sunlight pleasantly soft cloth from the tent they had created something hypnotic I stayed for several, long minutes to observe that repetitive work with your mind completely serene and clear of thoughts, a bit 'as sometimes happens when, on a cold winter's night, entice us to watch the flames flickering light of the strains or embers of a fireplace ... It cost me some effort and attention from my eyes off big tangle formed by the rope but it is absolutely not painful but remains surrounded by a pleasant sense of relaxation, this immersive feel part of the situation as if I was born there too, making me completely forget for long minutes on my being a foreigner in that place and among those people ...

The door of the photos - Revenge

I know, as the title is not particularly original or funny, but - alas - very apt!

; Besides, I announced a post on England and instead I'm here again with the door of the photos ...

The reason for this temporary program change is obvious: the other night after completing announced the establishment of the post, referring to a particular incident a few years ago, I thought to look for some photos that could enrich. To be honest I do not have specific images of the episode but I knew I have told about the context in which the event took place and to find I had never cleared up the challenge of the archive: so late yesterday afternoon - with sublime contempt of danger - I opened the door ... fatal

Thinking back to the horror films I might have to dedicate this mini-post 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, "but in any case, the result was terrible: I found myself past a schizophrenic! Photo perfectly ordered by date and time specifications on the back are interspersed with other absolutely anonymous: in some places but I can not remember the exact dates of other people I recognize but do not remember the names or occasion where the photo was taken ... envelopes with negative well-categorized and other unknown ... a real chaos. The problem is that - probably - those that serve to me not to print photos and slides, but those are another source of adventure, certainly better categorized in general terms but not, unfortunately, the details of each shot: I'm afraid I'll publish a post like this: no images yet ... But I concede all this Sunday before giving up altogether!

Simple Buddhist Recipes

The dream of a Photo Blogger

I think the dream of (almost) all bloggers - and then a little even mine - is to see their page views and read by thousands of Internet users to find posted dozens and dozens of interesting and positive messages ... well, you can close your eyes and imagine seeing your "Public" from a stage in the middle of a huge stadium filled with tens of thousands of spectators waiting for your word ... Then open your eyes and, if all goes well, all players could be accommodated in the living room for tea. Of course, in any case always enjoy chatting with four well - Unlikely to have too wait a virtual stadium full of players - I sit in a chair to speak ... er, write.

We start from the first well of memories emerged from my memory, a memory linked to my beloved England ...

Para Que Sirve¿? Windons Cardspace

The door

few days ago I accidentally saw on television that showed a reporter a roll of film for a traditional camera to adolescents who watched the object without having the faintest idea of \u200b\u200bwhat it was. However, for those - like myself - were born before the 80s of the twentieth century, rollin photo was an indispensable travel companion on holidays, weddings, birthday parties and other similar occurrences. Remember the problems related to it?
Yeah, there was the matter of cost: I have to save and at the same time great film I used homemade rolls loaded by the photographer of confidence that there be a film of 64 ASA professional course slides (they cost less and they were excellent!). I remember when starting for Wales, Sri Lanka or the north of Spain arming me at least a dozen rolls of 36 exposures ... more than 400 photos were a "booty" respectable and a small financial investment. And the pinch of anxiety which you felt the first vision of them: they will come good? Some photos that will be successful - if you come as I think - it will be beautiful? And the relief that soothes when they see that the end had come and almost all those who can not not ruin everything?
I, even with my humble passion did not reach certain levels of certain "crazy amateurs" that for photography dotavano of a large family of camera bodies, lenses, additional lenses, filters and similar accessories! Oh, I defended me in my little (thanks to daddy's money she had in fact bought everything): available "only" a body equipped, on the other hand, from a discreet envelope: 25 mm wide-angle , objective "normal" 50 mm and a real (and heavy) "Cannon" by 300 mm ! Used very little, I admit, but with some good satisfaction when I have gone to use it with a focal Doubler! Anyway, I like all the "fotomaniaci" I had (and still have) a place in the house where they gathered the fruits of this passion, good and bad.

In particular, this is all my traditional photographic archive in the closet door in the bedroom where more than 4,000 slides lie (almost) all well sorted in bins ready for projection, most of which are no longer seen in last ten years. Fortunately, all shippers have a label at the top that allows me to easily identify the place and year and if I have to - for example - search for a photo taken in Ireland in 1989 - I can find it easily. But if I try to print a photo it's getting awfully complicated: a shelf of the door in question is chock full of small album, bags full of photos and negatives ever ordered in a rational way, so that the rare times that - rash - you put on my hands, I get hit by a delirium total because (I confess) I am already in my messy and long.

My problem will then retrieve the photos from those places that I should write to refer back to pre- Digital can enter them, however - who knows - perhaps this blog might make me a vague attempt to rearrange. Which, however, even in summary, I have somehow started: the picture attached to this chapter, I did just last December 31 when - working on writing the next post - I tried a few photos right: undertaking unlikely and terrible ... But rest assured: I will not discourage (at least, I hope!).
