Saturday, November 3, 2007. We're just two of us, the inseparable pair of unwary adventurers. Let's start with Lauria at 7.30 am at a time of Refuge De Gasperi (1575 meters) of floor Ruggie, a crucial point for hikers in the area, located in the heart of the Pollino National Park. Park the car near Colle dell'Impiso, we start towards the summit of Pollino. We go into the forest at the foot of the Serra del Prete, and in less than a half hour journey to arrive at a sustained pace already plain. We are down to 1453 meters, and from now on the road will be an uphill struggle. We will sail along a stream, and passing through it: if I remember the river should be the beginning Frido of its path or its tributary. Shorten the path by cutting down a beech tree that allows us to arrive shortly in Piano Gaudolino (1684 meters), which comes wrapped in a fog infernal. Our sense of direction today will be put to the test of time bizarre. The view is so bad, you can see just the shade of a tree in front of us. We unprepared we really, from the moment we have forgotten (or rather, the fault is only one Sunday, but now without specifying which of the two) to house the maps of the area, as well as the compass. Well, now we are careful to store the path with few reference points that we can find in the dense fog, and skillfully manage smoothly to take the path that will lead us to the summit. Going up, the fog starts to go away, leaving room for a sun COCEN
you that soon we tumble from our efforts and forces us to stop to shed our warm clothing. We're back from the southwestern slope of the mountain, and looking towards the west you can see countless examples of pine loricato at our feet. The photos here are a must, but we can not waste too much time because the weather seems unstable. And so we come to the statue of the Virgin Mary, located at 2240 meters, looking towards the East nell'anticima Dolcedorme Serra, obscured by clouds. Here too is the case for us to portray in the photo, and after appropriate feeding of sugar we head towards the true summit of Pollino, at an altitude of 2248 meters. Freeze the moment of the conquest of the summit, which persisted on patches of snow that fell earlier in the week, especially in the furrows and sinkholes present in large numbers. Now begins the descent, easily surpassed Gaudolino plan and arrive at the source Spezzavummula (1664 meters), a meeting point of our adventures on the Pollino, whose waters in this period are "psychiatrist" as they say in our vernacular. We come so quickly to the car, with the satisfaction of having covered the entire route (including stops) in 4 hours just walking.
